The best TESLA accessories

A case for your Tesla car key ring

While this doesn’t apply to all Tesla models, both Model X and Model Y come with a key fob that needs to be protected. You can now buy a keychain for your Model 3, but to our knowledge, it’s not available as an accessory for the Model Y (your phone and key cards are supposed to do the trick).

Like our No. 1 recommendation, the Tesla keychain case is purely a maintenance choice (and helps you keep track of the thing). All that time spent in your pocket or bag (and, uh, falling to the ground after trial and error) will take a toll on the key fob, so why not extend its life for as long as you can with a protective case?

FYI, replacement keychains cost $175 for the Model 3 and over $300 for the Model S and X… Money better spent on something more fun, like number 10 on this list.

Game Controllers

Okay, we know we’ve said this list is mostly practical. Well, the game is convenient, especially if you or a passenger are bored and sitting in front of a Supercharger. For the casual gamer who just wants an easy plug-in option that can stay in the car when not in use, the Logitech F310 wired controller is an inexpensive accessory that should work just fine in your Tesla.

For you more serious gamers (or if you want something you can take in and out of the house), there’s always the wired or wireless XBOX One controller (although we recommend wires if possible to avoid connectivity headaches).

Well, that’s it for the Top 10 Tesla accessories! Let’s take a look at some recommendations for more specific Tesla accessories by model:

Top 3 Tesla Model S accessories

The Model S isn’t getting enough love right now from accessory companies (thank you so much, Model 3), but there are a few replacement accessories for a Model S that make sense to consider. We have two handy Tesla accessories and a cosmetic accessory that we believe complement the Model S experience, so here it is:

Sun visors for hot climates

If you live in the western and southern parts of the United States, one of the first Tesla accessories you’ll probably want to consider is sun visors or heat shields. Despite the constant improvement of Teslas’ HVAC system, an S Model can still be a huge heat trap in a place like Arizona or Texas.

Any little thing you can do, like parking in the shade and adding a sun visor or heat shield, can help your Tesla’s battery live a little longer … not to mention preventing you and your passengers from feeling like fried eggs on a sidewalk every time you go for a drive in the summer (and in autumn, all of you, if we’re always talking about the South).

Tesla sells its own sun visor for the panoramic roof and the roof all glass from the 2012-2020 model years (remember, the panoramic roof moves, the all-glass roof stays in place), and Tesmanian stores a basic sun visor for refresh model 2021-2022 S which is lightweight and easy to store.

If you’re considering getting serious temperature control with your blinds, an Original HeatShield set can help you reduce the vampire consumption of your Tesla’s battery cooling system when parked in the open. There is a bit of a learning curve to implement these heat shields, but the results can be measured in real autonomy savings. Not bad for a simple Model S accessory.

Model S Storage Organizer

An organizer for the sub-trunk is an indispensable accessory of the Tesla Model S, because everything drives differently. We talked earlier about keeping jack pads and a portable air compressor, and it would be nice if those things didn’t collide every time you tested your Model S’s diseased cornering capabilities.

While you can get all sorts of crazy organizers with specific slots, a basic organizer that folds flat when not in use is ideal. Make sure you buy an organizer that matches your model year. Since the sub-trunk of the 2021-2022 Model S Plaid changed dimensions after refreshing (it’s no longer a convenient rectangle), most of the available Model S sub-trunk organizers are not compatible with them.

Pre-2021 Model S

  • Sub-vault organizer: Since specific organizers don’t seem to be on the market yet, these versatile freight organizer blocks on Amazon can help you keep a few items (like a portable air compressor) safe.

Chrome Removal Kit (for Model S prior to 2021)

Although the Model S Plaid began coming with a style update that only included a tiny amount of chrome, covering your pre-2021 Model S chrome with a DIY chrome removal package is all the rage.

Chrome removal options have become cheaper since they became popular aftermarket accessories for Tesla’s Model 3. As a result, the early years of the Model S can benefit from an updated and streamlined look at a fraction of the cost of professionally packaged or painted chrome.

Let’s be honest, we didn’t want to like the idea of covering the chrome of a Model S, but seeing is believing; chrome removal on the Tesla Model S is so smooth . And pre-cut sets like the TESBROS Complete Chromium Removal Kit for Model S Make it an easy DIY with a big gain in appearance.

Essential accessories for Tesla Model 3

The advent of the Model 3 brought an explosion of cool Tesla accessories to the market, and these days you can find unlimited packaging and customizations for your Model 3. We’re going to look at three of the most commonly purchased aftermarket accessories. For Model 3:

Center console wrapping

The center console of the Model 3 is a mess of fingerprints in piano black, so the first of our first Model 3 must have accessories is a center console skin. The console look upgrade adds sophistication to the Model 3’s cabin and allows you to go a little longer between cleanings (which, let’s be honest, would be different every time you touch it ). They also allow you a simple and fast customization to your Tesla, always a plus. EV Wraps and TESBROS both have several conservative and sporty trim options for the Gen 1.0 and Gen 2.0 consoles (with the sliding door) Model 3.

If you’re not a fan of installing packaging materials, the Model 3’s center console ABS plastic shell sets make it easy to install and remove (all for a higher price, of course). For the Gen 1 console, RPM Tesla and Abstract Ocean both offer decent color options for ABS console shells, and RPM Tesla offers several console cover options for Gen 2 (like this one in matte black).

Wireless Phone Charger, USB Hub

While the current Model 3 comes with a wireless phone charger slot (for Qi-enabled phone models), the pre-June 4, 2020 Model 3 could definitely use an improved wireless option.

There no longer seems to be a wireless charging unit available directly in the Tesla online store, but we’ve found other wireless charging accessories for the Model 3 that can do a lot more without looking irrelevant.

Our current favorite is the Jeda Wireless Pad , which doubles with its USB hub to seamlessly add charging space and options to your Model 3. We like that you can also use the hub as a place to store your SSD out of sight if you have a Model 3 without a USB plug in the glove compartment.

Performance pedal cover

While changing the pedals on your Model 3 doesn’t actually change the trim level (sad face), for those who don’t have a Model 3 Performance, the pedal lift brings a nice and sporty change to the driver’s side of the cabin . Performance pedal covers are made of rubber and aluminum alloy, and while they’re generally beautiful and clean, they add extra grip.

You can find performance pedal covers for the Model 3 at most EV accessory stores that sell replacement Tesla 3 accessories. We love the powder-coated performance pedal options at RPM Tesla, but if brushed stainless steel is more your thing, TESBROS’ performance pedal set has you covered (pun intended).

Top 3 Best Tesla Accessories for Model X

We may think of the Model X as “Tesla’s family trip and transportation,” but let’s be honest… That’s sort of the case. So here’s our quick list of the best accessories for Tesla’s Model X, two practical and one just for aesthetics:

Inverter

Once you’ve charged your Tesla, it’s time to charge everything else. From laptops to electric scooters, the electric lifestyle requires a place to plug in. An inverter should be on your list for any electric vehicle, but it has a higher priority with the Model X (and maybe Model Y) because more people are going to be using it. Probably.

A regular UPS that doesn’t involve wiring is best (for warranty reasons, etc.), and something like the Bestek 200w inverter , which covers most bases with 110V AC, USB-A, and USB-C sockets, is ideal.

Extra long charging cable

If you’ve ever been stuck trying to figure out how to get a reasonable load on a Tesla on a car trip with no compressor in sight, you know the value of a very long charging cable! And since the Model X has plenty of extra storage space, there’s really no reason not to take an extra 30-foot lifeline with you.

Charging cables may not be so fun and glamorous, but as an accessory for a Tesla X, the value of extra cables can’t be ignored. EVVANEX offers a Tesla charging cable extension for about $200 for just the cable without all the extra adapters. Not cheap, but charging cables never are (and running out of juice in a Model X and getting towed? Well, it’s not cheap either).

Chrome Removal Kit (for Model X prior to 2021)

This Model X accessory isn’t an accessory for road travel, but style matters too, does it? And since the Model X is arguably the most iconic Tesla with its incomparable Falcon Wing doors, why not give it all the exterior refresh you can get with chrome removal?

Like the Model S Plaid, the refresh of the 2021-2022 Model X has already stifled most of Tesla’s earlier chrome styles. If your Model X is a 2015-2020 pre-refresh, you can update the look of your Model X yourself with a DIY chrome removal kit.

Pre-cut sets like the TESBROS Complete Chrome Removal Kit for the Model X are a quick and relatively inexpensive way to make a big impact on the style of your Model X.

Top 3 Best Tesla Model Y Accessories

The Model Y accessory market benefits a lot from the popularity of the Model 3 as they share many parts in common. You can take a lot from our list of Model 3s and add them to this one for Model Y, but here are some additional accessories that make everyday use of Model Y even better:

Mudguard flaps

If your Tesla regularly faces salty roads, snow, mud or gravel, mud flaps are a no-brainer. Both Model 3 and Model Y had paint problems damaged by suboptimal driving conditions. Adding a mudguard set can significantly reduce damage to your Tesla Model Y and protect its resale value.

Tesla sells its own weather protection kit for the Model Y, but the cost is relatively high and doesn’t include rear flaps.

Mudguard accessories for the Model Y are pretty cheap on Amazon (if you go that route, avoid any mudguard installation that involves drilling holes), but we’ve found a solid, inexpensive set with great Tesla RPM installation instructions that we love. One of the advantages of the Tesla RPM package is that it doesn’t extend as close to the road; With plastic mudguards, a risk of too much length is that they can easily break on speed bumps.

Center console organizer

The center console of the Model Y is nice and deep, which also makes it a pit of provisions without any kind of organizer. Just be aware that the two console designs, Gen 1 (pre-update of the 2020 Model Y) and Gen 2 (update of the 2021-2022 Model Y), are quite different and require specific size organizers for each.

EVVANEX makes an excellent coordinated sliding tray for the Model Y Gen 2 2021-2022 refresh console that keeps small items organized while leaving room for larger ones. The Gen 1 Model Y console (2020, pre-refresh) is more open, so an insertion tray works better.

Storage under the seat

Since the big advantage of Model Y over Model 3 is space, it makes sense to maximize your Model Y’s storage potential wherever you can. Some smart accessories for Model Y include additional lockers and bins in open, unused spaces.

The Model Y has a decent amount of space right under the seats, perfect for extra bins (the rear middle seat has a little less space, but there’s still usable storage space underneath). We are fans of these storage bins under the seat of RPM Tesla with flocking that preserves the OEM look, but you can find relatively inexpensive options under the seat on Amazon (if you don’t mind sending back the occasional missed product… some of the criticisms on these are brutal).
